California Virtual Academies Begin New Year of New Opportunities

SIMI VALLEY, Calif.–()–Students at California Virtual Academies (CAVA) will begin the 2019-2020 school year on August 22, simply by turning on their computers. Accredited online public charter schools, CAVA offers students in transitional kindergarten through 12th grade from across the state an educational model designed to prepare them for their future.

“CAVA’s online learning environment offers our students an opportunity to explore their education in a space that is right for them,” said April Warren, Head of Schools. “We are supporting them with the tools and guidance they need to succeed in school and whatever comes next, whether that’s college, a career, or both.”

CAVA students take a full course load across the core subjects of English/language arts, math, science, history, world languages, art and music. Advanced Placement® courses are also available to eligible high school students. Live online classes are facilitated by state-licensed teachers, who communicate regularly with students and families via phone and email.

In addition to their core subjects, high school students have the opportunity to take career-oriented courses through the Destinations Career Academy at CAVA. Destinations offers career-focused electives, giving students a jump-start on establishing and pursuing career goals. While working toward their high school diplomas, students can choose from a variety of courses in high-demand industry sectors of Business and Finance and Marketing, Sales, and Services.

The opening of the new school year comes as families across the nation are eagerly seeking more ways to prepare students for career success before high school graduation. According to a recent survey conducted by Morning Consult, only 12% of U.S. parents strongly agree that their school system is doing enough to prepare students for a career. Career readiness programs like CAVA’s Destinations Career Academy are designed to help bridge this gap.

Throughout the year, CAVA fosters a sense of community through in-person field trips and social outings and celebrates graduating seniors at a commencement ceremony in the spring. Virtual clubs and organizations also allow students to further explore shared interests and develop leadership skills in an online setting.
