SAN FRANCISCO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–There’s no question that Silicon Valley executives have good instincts. They’ve essentially built a portfolio of wealth to rival the last centuries’ industrial revolutionaries. And while female executives are indeed minorities, they are also the visionary forces behind many huge successes. One of the investors and associate producer of the new play R.R.R.E.D., Kara Goldin, founder and CEO of hint, Inc. is a premiere example of this positive trend.
A disruptor by nature, Goldin and her company have always been avid supporters of the music industry. More recently, they stepped into another genre of the arts helping to bring the irreverent story of R.R.R.E.D. to life at the DR2 Theatre in New York City. The vibrant musical about the extinction of redheads officially opens Sunday, August 19 (previews started July 28th).
“I am very interested in supporting entrepreneurs of a less traditional type. R.R.R.E.D.’s Director Andy Sandberg and writer Katie Thompson had a message I could relate to (as a natural redhead),” says Goldin. “While many people are investing in startups, supporting the arts is important because it can change the way people think about a topic—or, in this case, redheads. I started my career in journalism, I’ve always appreciated the power of the written word. All the better when it comes alive.”
After building AOL’s shopping and E-commerce platform into a $1 billion enterprise, Goldin was inspired by her desire for a healthier lifestyle to create the leading, award-winning, no-sweetener flavored water, as well as a newly launched oxybenzone and paraben-free sunscreen. Goldin has become an iconic consumer advocate, she thoroughly looks at problems (starting with her own), and provides solutions—it’s a winning combination of passion and purpose.
“Theater is about storytelling, it informs and moves people. While R.R.R.E.D. gets its message across in a fun, enjoyable way, you can see how you can drop other topics in here that may be facing extinction or prejudice and get people to recognize other challenges that we may be facing in the world.”
No doubt, R.R.R.E.D. encapsulates Goldin’s appreciation for the arts, an inspiring story and hair color, but this entrepreneur from San Francisco also knows a good investment!
R.R.R.E.D., with music and lyrics by Katie Thompson and a book by Adam Jackman, Katie Thompson and Patrick Livingston, began performances on July 28, 2018, and officially opens on August 19. R.R.R.E.D. is directed by Andy Sandberg and choreographed by Shea Sullivan. Tickets are available now by visiting Ticketmaster.com, or through RRREDTheMusical.com.
By the year 2100, the recessive gene that causes red-hair may cease to exist. Now, in the year 2018, a secret redheaded revolutionary organization is taking matters into their own hands, fighting back against their imminent extinction and standing up for the rights of redheads everywhere.
“Having this chance to ‘spread the R.R.R.E.D.’ Off-Broadway is a dream come true,” said R.R.R.E.D. creators Katie Thompson, Adam Jackman and Patrick Livingston. “And we can’t imagine a better team of redhead-allies to bring our misfit revolution to the stage.”
R.R.R.E.D. will feature Katie Thompson (Giant; Pump Boys & Dinettes) as “Victoria,” Matt Loehr (Book of Mormon; The Sting) as “GJ,” Marissa Rosen (The Marvelous Wonderettes) as “Stephanie Hicks,” and Lucille Lortel Award nominee Kevin Zak (Clinton The Musical) as “Craig.” Rotating guest stars for the month of August include Christopher Sieber (The Prom, Shrek the Musical), Tony Nominee Ariana Debose (Summer: The Musical), Kate Rockwell (Mean Girls), Tony and Emmy Nominee Tovah Feldshuh (“Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Gypsy), Kara Lindsay (Newsies, Wicked), Tony Nominee Lauren Worsham (Gentlemen’s Guide To Love & Murder), Frankie Grande (Rock of Ages, “Big Brother”) and more.
R.R.R.E.D. features Music Direction by Rodney Bush (Loophole), Scenic Design by Charlie Corcoran (Shining City, Irish Rep), Lighting Design by Jake DeGroot (Oh, Hello), Costume Design by Tony Award nominee Michael McDonald (Hair), Sound Design by David Sanderson (Pageant), Projection Design by Dan Scully (Rocky), Hair/Wigs by John D’Orazio / John D’Orazio Salon, Casting by Jason Styres, CSA, and the production stage manager is Gregory Fletcher. R.R.R.E.D. is produced by R.R.R.E.D. Productions LLC, Randi Zuckerberg, Judith Manocherian/Mary Sedarat, Drew Desky/Dane Levens, and Christine Nielsen/Steven Coggins in association with Laura Barket and Kara Goldin, and executive producer ABS Productions.
