President Donald Trump said Sunday that he’s been focusing on maintaining Republican control of the Senate, as new polls find Democrats likely to win the House.

“I think we’re going to do well in the House. But, as you know, my primary focus has been on the Senate, and I think we’re doing really well in the Senate.”

With just two days before the midterm elections, Trump appeared to distance himself from blame if Republicans lose control of the House. A fresh CBS News poll said Democrats are in position to narrowly win the House, while a new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll found Democrats have a 7-percentage-point edge on which party voters want to control Congress. Polls have indicated Republicans may make gains in the Senate, which features a number of Democrats facing re-election in states that Trump won in 2016.

Speaking at the White House on Sunday before departing for campaign rallies in Georgia and Tennessee, Trump praised the enthusiasm he’s seeing from Republican voters.

“The level of fervor, the level of fever is very strong in the Republican side,” said Trump, according to the Associated Press. “I have never seen such excitement. Maybe back in ’16 during the presidential, right around the vote. But I have never seen such an enthusiastic Republican Party.”

Trump also denied the midterms were a referendum on his administration, and that a Democratic swing in the House would be seen as a rebuke of him

“No, I don’t view this as for myself,” he said.
